I have a backyard shooting range, where I shoot a Hatsan Hercules Bully, PCP Airgun from about 20 yards. My airgun shoots a 21 grain, 22 cal pellet at about 1150 fps (ya, it's a beast). I had made a backstop out of 16 ga steel but, it was getting tore up and, it would never withstand a 22 long rifle round. The steel I used was ~$30 or so so, to replace it was adding up. Also, i was getting a smattering of pellet debris everywhere. This Highwild trap stops my pellets dead, with not even a dent in the backstop and, it catches most of the debris. It's cheaper than me constantly replacing my home made back stop and I see this lasting a lot longer. Also, the ability to clip up targets easily is a big plus. It's also small and light enough to be easily portable/movable. I love this bullet trap and see it lasting a long time. FYI: The actual "shootable" target area is about 10" h x 11" w and it's super, SUPER simple to assemble, out of the box.
Very Sturdy Construction! I'm shooting a 22 cal Gamo Swarm Whisper at close range. Not even a dent, just some interior chipped paint! Don't tighten screws until fully assembled.
It arrived as promised and handles .22 LR with no issues. Back trap is heavy medal and shows no marks from bullet impact.
I use this for my .25 caliber (22 foot pounds) air rifle. I had a "normal" pellet trap that was rated for .177/22 below 800 fps but my .25 knocked a hole through the back of it in pretty short order. At least 800 shots into this one so far. Has not made the slightest dimple in the backstop and the pellets are flattened after hitting it. The rear plate is thick. I don't plan on shooting it with any rimfire weapons so can't tell you if it will hold up but I suspect if you are back a ways it would be fine.
It's also about 10 or 11" square so it's bigger than a lot of the other air rifle pellet traps.
I would buy again if i needed 2--but think this one will last till I'm old and gray. Very happy with this purchase.
I did not order the trap: I don't like the noise of the impact on metal. My target shooting is done indoors, at a distance of about 5 meters, with a CO2-powered S&S .177 target pistol. I simply tape a target to the face of a stiff piece of cardboard, which I then place in front of a box filled with densely packed paper (about 3" stack). Having five nicely sized bulls-eyes gives me about 50 'rounds' of firing before having to change targets or even approach the target to apply pasties to 'renew' the target face. The bulls-eye is a bright yellow spot, placed on a white background, improving my sighting accuracy with open sights (shooting at a black target tends to eliminate visibility between the front sight and the inside of the rear sight slot. This is one of the very few targets that does not obscure that sighting view through open sights).
