Support the causes they claim, develop their networks of members or volunteers… digital communication is essential for ngos. In order to better understand the issues and specificities of this type of communication, we met alexis chailloux, head of the digital department, and clément schmitt, web marketing manager, at greenpeace france… hello to both of you, before getting to the heart of the matter, can you tell us how you Japan Phone Number List at greenpeace, what are your backgrounds? Alexisalexis : before greenpeace, I worked for limite, a responsible communication agency specializing in topics of general interest and digital. Then I joined babyloan, a crowdfunding start-up, which connects individuals and micro-entrepreneurs (you help someone on the other side of the world by lending them a small sum, out of pure philanthropy).
As head of digital, I particularly deepened the acquisition and loyalty strategy of what we call “solidarity lenders”, that is to say the individuals who allow the site to exist. Trainer training clementclément : after my master's degree in marketing, I participated in the creation of a start-up in the collaborative economy in barcelona in order to develop the Japan Phone Number List part, particularly in acquisition, sem, seo and content marketing. I then continued as a freelancer at decathlon as a digital consultant for the artengo brand before realizing that the associative field would be much more fulfilling and rich in challenges than a simple improvement in turnover. From a practical point of view, how is the digital division organized at greenpeace?
Alexis : currently there are 6 of us in the division, 2 digital communication managers, 2 developers, 1 webmarketing manager (clément therefore) and myself who define the strategy and coordinate the division. There is currently a web project manager in charge of redesigning the site. All of these professions participate in the design and Japan Phone Number List of greenpeace campaigns on the web. Today, social networks are a great lever for ngos and associations… greenpeace is on facebook , twitter , and youtube , can you tell us what strategy you have put in place to stand out in these different spaces? What concretely do social networks bring to the organization? Alexis : greenpeace made the bet to invest in these media very early on because they allow direct and rapid communication with the public.
During an environmental disaster, such as the one that occurred in chiloé recently , we can thus document and broadcast a subject hitherto little covered by the french media. Similarly, when we returned to several nuclear power plants in december 2011, nicolas sarkozy described greenpeace's action as “irresponsible”. Two activists, hidden in the cruas power Japan Phone Number List, then responded to the president within half an hour, via a dailymotion video . In another register, these networks are very horizontal and value citizen expression, whether to react to our actions, but also to react on the pages of the companies that we incriminate in our campaigns. Recently, petit navire's facebook page was “caught in the net” by consumers worried about its destructive tuna fishing methods. So much so that the brand preferred to delete all comments, there were about 1,000, rather than change its practices.
Not sure that this measure reassured the consumers of petit navire... It's not just social networks either, what are the most effective digital levers Japan Phone Number List how do you articulate these different levers to achieve your goals? Alexis : when it comes to communicating with our supporters, social networks are useful – moreover, we recently invested in instagram -, but we remain very dependent on the algorithms of the dominant players: facebook, twitter, google… since its creation, facebook thus regularly decreases its reach, encouraging advertisers to pay or publish native content (video, instant article) to be seen. To gain autonomy, we have chosen to regularly offer our supporters to join the movement, leaving us their email.
